Matty Green - Alumni Spotlight

Jeremy Alves | Jan 25, 2018

Matty Green (’03) is a Los Angeles based recording engineer and mixer. Matty’s engineering work can be heard on Beatle Paul McCartney’s “New,” “Food” by Kelis, and “X” by Ed Sheeran – for which he was nominated for a Grammy for Record of the Year. He has become the go-to mix engineer for highly respected writer/producer Dave Sitek, his ever growing list of mixing credits including Lady Gaga’s 2015 cover of Chic’s “I Want Your Love,” TV On The Radio, No Doubt and the upcoming release from Yeasayer.

After OIART, Matty began his career as an assistant engineer in studios around Los Angeles, working on albums by Kanye West and Beyonce amongst others. Eventually he landed the coveted position of assistant to noted mixer Mark “Spike” Stent, one of the world’s top mixers. His mix assistant credits include Taylor Swift, Frank Ocean, Fallout Boy, The Weeknd, Bruce Springsteen, P!ink, Florence and the Machine, and the new release from Selena Gomez.

Of his OIART education, Matty said, “I feel like OIART helped me to be ready for anything and everything. OIART really trains the students well to understand how ALL gear works instead of how a few pieces of gear work. You can walk in anywhere and understand why something is doing something and what it’s going to do. OIART is giving students the knowledge to figure things out instead of training button pushing monkeys. The teachers are incredibly supportive and the extra help is there if you need it. OIART Rocks, I really love that place.”
