Josh Cuthbert - Alumni Spotlight
Jeremy Alves | October 27, 2015
Joshua Cuthbert (’13) has been working with Celebrity Cruise Lines for the last 2 years. Over that time he has done two 6 month contracts as an apprentice sound tech, and has just completed his first 6 month contract as a full sound tech in his own theatre. In that time Joshua has visited 30 unique countries on ships alone and is about to add around 10 more including Antarctica which will cover every continent in the world. Josh also worked as a freelance music composer for S2 Games.
Joshua says, “As an apprentice I was happy to be working with microphones every day, and now as a sound tech I’ve been working 2 to 3 shows a night in a theater that seats 1,000. That’s over 360 shows in 6 months. The talent includes singers from West End and Broadway as well as contestants and winners of the Voice (most often the UK version), X Factor, and other TV shows, all backed by a live band. I have developed my skill set with wireless systems, programming automation with digital boards, and learned a lot about how theatre shows run. I don’t feel as though I’ve put my career on hold to take this job and see the world.”
“I attended OIART because I’m passionate about music production and recording. Live sound was always more of a challenge for me, but my time at OIART has given me the skills and confidence to progress in any field of audio. Because of that, I get to travel the world.”
