Gregory Rushton - Alumni Spotlight

Jeremy Alves | Feb 23, 2017

Gregory Rushton, CTS-D (’05 Grad) oversees the dedicated Audio Visual Design Division at Mulvey & Banani International Inc. (MBII), working on a wide range of projects across all sectors. After working on the contracting/ installation side of the industry, Gregory joined MBII in 2007 to launch the AV Division, successfully leveraging his ‘hands-on” industry experience over to the consulting side. He has built a team of AV specialists that deliver system design solutions that consider the requirements of the Owner and project: equipment and systems are specified in the Owner’s best interest, without bias or preference to any particular supplier, manufacturer or systems integrator, thus providing a comprehensive and custom solution.

Always pushing the boundaries of AV system design, Gregory is now an industry leader in “Building Intelligence” (BI) and its pivotal role in achieving sustainability in buildings. AV Design has evolved to play a significant role in BI Design, calling for AV Designers to acquire expertise with converged networks and integration for electrical and all related electronic systems. Gregory applies his expertise to a wide spectrum of project sectors, ranging from cultural and sport venues, education and healthcare facilities and private commercial developments and tenant fit-ups.

Stemming from his entertainment background, Gregory is still active in theatre, studio and live sound with credits including both “Boots and Hearts” and “WayHome” music festivals. He is currently working on an exciting multi-sensory project with an international band that will likely reside on both Broadway and Las Vegas stages and tour as well.

Gregory graduated from OIART in 2005. The school provided a solid foundation for Gregory’s career, albeit not toward the traditional career path typically associated with recording technology schools. The consulting and installation world is often overlooked by schools and graduates alike and these fields can benefit greatly from new talent coming out of schools like OIART. Gregory welcomes discussion with educators and graduates alike regarding career paths and the application of a recording technology education.
