Tim Wallace - Alumni Spotlight

Jeremy Alves | Oct 12, 2015

Tim Wallace (’07) AKA Timbuktu is a Toronto based performer, beat maker, engineer and mixer. Tim has gained national and international recognition as a veteran of the Canadian Hip Hop scene, and his accomplishments are impressive. Tim’s aptly-named home studio, FUN, is a hub of activity where he engineers and mixes for notable Canadian recording artists including D-Sisive, Ghettosocks, Wordburglar, More or Les and many more.

Tim has contributed as a writer, producer and engineer on two Juno-nominated albums – Ghettosocks’ “Treat of the Day” and D-Sisive’s “Jonestown 2.” His collaboration with Juno nominated Ghettosocks and Halifax legend DJ Jorun Bombay landed them an East Coast Music Award for Hip Hop Recording of the Year. His work with Halifax’s Ambition & Uncle Fester on “My Giants” was nominated for Music Nova Scotia award for best rap album. As a solo artist, Tim’s release “Stranger Danger” stayed at #1 for 2 months on the Earshot Canadian College Radio Hip Hop charts, and he has toured extensively.

Tim says: “When I enrolled at OIART I’d already been recording and mixing my own music for 8 years or so. Everything I knew was from trial and error, figuring it out on my own, fumbling around in the dark. OIART filled in all the gaps. I found out what I had (accidentally) gotten right, what I was doing wrong and how to communicate exactly what I was trying to say. Having that foundation and confidence going forward has been invaluable to everything I have done subsequently. Plus it was a lot of fun!”
