Studio Maintenance
Successful and responsible use of the intricate technology in modern audio environments is a challenge. An audio recording system may be as simple as a microphone connected to a tape recorder, or an environment as elaborate as OIART's main studios- automated 24/32 track recording and mixing facilities (analogue and digital) with SMPTE/MIDI synchronization and hard-disc editing.

As the intricacy of an audio system increases, so does its susceptibility to breakdown. Regardless of complexity level, optimal performance from the equipment is essential. This is primarily achieved through:

  • proper interconnection of audio devices
  • routine maintenance
  • accurate mechanical and electronic calibration
  • equipment alignment.

The ability to recognize, trouble-shoot, solve or work around a technical problem and to communicate effectively with electronic suppliers and technicians presupposes a fundamental understanding of electronic concepts components and use of basic test equipment.

Our students develop an indispensable technical literacy with both analogue and digital systems in the Studio Maintenance course through theoretical and practical as well as workshops.
