Computer Management
in Audio Environments
Like most other forms of cultural content, sound and music
has become electronic information. Both in and through computerized
environments sound is being captured, stored, transmitted, processed,
presented and even invented. MP3s, Internet Audio, CDs, DVDs and
inexpensive audio editing software are a few of the most visible
manifestations of digital technology's impact in the audio world.
In the professional sound and music engineering environments currently
being installed worldwide, computer hardware and software devices
are defining the workspace. From recording/editing workstations
to in-house servers and networks to high-speed connectivity with
the global village, computerized infrastructures have come to define
studio design in the first decade of this century. Clearly, a thorough
understanding of computer technology in the specialized world of
audio applications has become a necessity for virtually every employment
position, entry-level to advanced.
The Computer Management in Audio Environments course
is designed to ensure that our graduates attain a high level of
audio-centric computer literacy crucial to successful career pursuits
throughout the professional audio industry. This course is lab
and workshop supported, and is extensively integrated with the
Pro Tools, Desktop Production, Recording Technology and Audio
for Pictures courses.
