Studio 1
The signature studio of this decade is the computer-based 'virtual'
studio, completely capable of handling the most complex recording/editing/processing
sessions. The current industry-standard and preferred virtual environment
uses Digidesign's 'Pro Tools' software as the central recording/editing
tool and proficiency with this software workspace has rapidly become
a requirement for entry-level positions in today’s computer
driven audio industry. Much of the hardware associated with professional-level
recording studios (see Studio 2) is now available as software 'plug-in'
devices and Studio One accurately reflects this new industry standard
- typifying the virtual studio at its best.

The control room/critical listening space is constructed
using a 'staggered wedge' design principle for acoustic control:
the side walls and ceiling are specifically designed to create
a unique tapering of the surface geometry. The control room occupies
265 sq. ft. and the accompanying multi-surfaced recording floor
with iso-booth is 500 sq. ft.
The essential equipment grouping includes a Pro
Tools HD system with 2496 and 24192 interfaces running on a Mac
G5, Focusrite Control 24 , extensive plug in processing by manufacturers
such as Waves, Antares, and Focusrite, Urei far field monitors,
a Tannoy 5.1 surround and near-field system, Toshiba DVD player,
Digidesign SSD, and Tascam DAT. This studio is connected to the
LAN and central storage server. Internet access is via a high
speed DSL connection
This studio provides extensive lab support primarily
for the Pro Tools and Recording Technology courses. Lab content
such as surround sound mixing, plug-in signal processing, synchronization,
automation and hard disk recording occurs in this environment.
