
OIART Guest Lecturers
During our third semester, OIART welcomes a wealth of renowned industry professionals to lecture at the school. OIART students had the following professionals visit:
Doug McClement, Owner, Engineer, Live Wire Remote Recorders, Toronto
Doug described his surround equipped remote truck which accompanied 50 Cent on tour last summer. He also talked about the techniques involved with recording AC/DC and other bands at SARStock, mixing live to air on the Junos, the Live 8 concert, numerous live to air remotes for Much Music, and much more!
Mike Nunan, Head of Audio Post Production, CTV, TSN, Discovery, NHL Network, Toronto
Mike lectured on surround sound for Broadcast Television. He will also teaching additional classes in mixing surround for TV, recording location surround, and Dolby encoding for broadcast delivery. Mike also spoke about broadcasting the Junos, CFL games, NHL and Memorial Cup games.
Ron Schroyens, Owner, The PA Shop, London
Ron came in to lecture about live sound mixing, setup, teardown, contracts, riders, stage set ups and everything that goes along with the job!
Digidesign Venue Seminar, Mike Davidson of Contact Distribution Toronto
Mike Davidson described the history of the Digidesign Venue console. Venue is quickly becoming the new standard for live digital consoles. Mike demonstrated the use of the console and described its application on the road with Tom Petty and Nine Inch Nails. Mike also left the console for a week of lab rotations so all OIART students could use it.
John Acquaviva, Internationally Famous DJ, Electronic Music Pioneer, Entrepeneur, Partner in Final Scratch DJ software and Beatport Online Music Store.
John spoke about the challenges and successes of starting in the business, having hit records in Europe, DJ-ing all over the globe, starting his own record label and publishing company, and finally his involvement in the development of Final Scratch and Beatport.
OIART students are looking forward to a host of exciting industry professionals to visit in the coming months.
