A New Year at OIART
OIART students returned from their Christmas break eager to see the
state-of-the-art audio for pictures surround sound mixing theatre. Students
will begin projects in the new theater this month.
OIART students at the London Blues Society Show
At OIART, we help our students form industry connections long before they graduate. Last month, students Adam Bell and David Bird assisted at the
London Blues Society Show. Here is what supervisor Greg Simpson had to
say about their efforts:
“We've grown used to having solid efforts from OIART volunteers, but you two
were unbelievably solid. Looking forward to working with you again on February 10th for our biggest indoor show of the year."
OIART grads continue to enjoy success in the industry:
Mike Shepherd (1997-1998) of Lakewind Studios won the Engineer of the Year award for Music Nova Scotia. He recently travelled to Nashville to work with ASCAP Song of the Year and JUNO Songwriter of the Year winner Gordie Sampson (whose song "Jesus Take the Wheel" by Carrie Underwood spent 6 weeks at the top of the Billboard Country chart) and legendary multiple Grammy winning engineer and producer George Massenburg.
Mike Snow (2004-2005) has been promoted to Assistant Engineer at Chalice Recording in Hollywood. He will be assisting on sessions for Celine Dion and Billboard Male Artist of the Year, Grammy nominee, and platinum selling artist Chris Brown.
Corey DeRushia (2005-2006) is excited to start his internship at Electrical Audio in Chicago. Electrical Audio is the home of famed producer and music industry activist Steve Albini (Nirvana, Pixies, PJ Harvey, Page & Plant).
Thomas Hanson (2005-2006) will begin at the Warehouse Studios in Vancouver (clients include AC/DC, Metallica, Sir Elton John and Nickelback).
