John Bailey - Juno Engineer of the Year 2007

John Bailey was recently crowned Juno Engineer of the Year for 2007. John has been a regular guest lecturer at OIART for three years. During his lecture, John created a 5.1 music mixing clinic for OIART students. He broke down a track and discussed his approach to recording, processing, panning and final mixing.
He also shared Pro Tools tricks and tips, and discussed his recent acquisition of a major recording studio in Toronto. John's credits include Molly Johnson, The Headstones, Tom Cochrane, and Kim Mitchell.
Dan Daniels - Sound Recordist, 2 time Gemini Winner

Dan Daniels, Toronto-based Sound Recordist, spoke to our students about the wealth of opportunities available in Film and Television sound. He discussed the path he took to eventually become one of the busiest audio people in the city. Never afraid to follow his passions, Dan has bicycled around the world, makes his home on a sailing ship, and organizes a hockey team which many of his crew play on! Always upbeat, Dan is known for his attention to detail and quality, and his ability to make any set a fun place to be. Dan has won Gemini awards for his work on the shows "Mutant X" and "Twitch City".

Craig Kadoke, OIART grad 1991, has had a lengthy and successful career in sound for Theatre in Toronto; his credits include mega-productions The Lion King, Mamma Mia, Beauty and the Beast, and Lord of the Rings.
Craig discussed his membership in IATSE, and the fast-paced world of making a massive show happen, from learning the scripts and cues to the immense planning that goes into the audio of every scene.

Damian Kearns, OIART grad 1994, returned to OIART this year to deliver a clinic on mixing for Television. He described his approach to cleaning up dialogue, adding sound effects, and telling a story through sound.
Damian also demonstrated strategies for dealing with sound for picture within Pro Tools, using examples from "Second City's Next Comedy Legend," and "The Royal Canadian Air Farce" in both Stereo and Surround. Damian also mixes CBC's critically acclaimed, long running documentary series "The Fifth Estate."
