OIART Leads SSL Sponsored "Studio Apprentice" Workshop in Los Angeles
The Studio Apprentice Workshop is a new series of “real-world” classes based in Hollywood, CA, designed to help those in entry-level recording positions advance in their career. OIART's Robert Breen was called upon to lead the first workshop, sponsored by Solid State Logic, Chalice Recording, and Mad Labs that focused on signal flow in SSL consoles and Pro Tools DAWs.
Bob had the following to say about the workshop:
“It was a tremendously satisfying experience. In delivering a short OIART-style course to working graduates from other programs, I re-discovered for myself how effective, practical, and remarkably unique the OIART approach to audio education is.”

OIART Guest Lecturer Tim Kingsbury's group, The Arcade Fire, Hits #1, Opens for U2
Tim Kingsbury lectured at OIART in April '05 and spoke to our students about labels, contracts, recording, touring, and of course, his sudden brush with international fame. Continuing one of the most remarkable independent music success stories of all time, The Arcade Fire's “Funeral” was recently nominated for 2 Grammy's: Best Alternative Music Album and Best Song Written for Motion Picture, Television or Other Visual Media for the song “Cold Wind” written for the TV series Six Feet Under. They recorded the track for the finale of the HBO series with legendary producer Chris Thomas (The Beatles, Pink Floyd, The Pretenders, Pete Townshend, The Sex Pistols). The group has also opened a series of three shows with rock legends U2, performed on David Letterman, Conan O'Brien and the Much Music Video Awards and appeared on prime time US Network television with David Bowie (with whom they released a download-only EP).
