OIART Alumni have been incredibly busy in the industry!

Our graduates have been busy winning Gemini Awards, Canadian Country Music Awards, MIX Magazine Awards, and so much more. We’re very proud of the excellent work that all OIART alumni have accomplished over the years.

OIART—committed to innovation!

OIART has enlisted the help of Mike Nunan (CTV, Post Sound Supervisor) and Damian Kearns (CBC Post Audio Mixer, 1993–1994) to create a brand new audio for pictures studio and mixing theater!

The state-of-the-art surround sound studio will feature a ProTools HD 7.2 waves 360 plug-ins, a Control 24 control surface, and an Evertz Master Clock generator.

OIART at the Western Canadian Music Awards

This year, OIART sponsored the Western Canadian Music Engineer of the Year Award. Our very own Robert Breen (OIART Career Development & Industry Relations, President AES–Toronto Chapter) was on hand to present the award to this year’s winner, Brandon Friesen. Brandon and fellow-nominee, Shawn Pierce are scheduled to guest-lecture at OIART this year.

Tricks of the Trade - Guest Lecturers at OIART

Last month, Shure Microphones product specialist, Chris Brooks, and studio owner and installation consultant, Adam Plante (1995–1996), visited OIART to discuss the development of microphone technology through the past 80 years. Chris and Adam spoke about microphone theory and characteristics. OIART students also learned from these industry experts about the exciting world of wireless microphone technology in live sound, theaters and churches.

OIART students were also treated to a lecture by Steve Scott—a location sound recorder. Steve discussed equipment used in location sound recording for film and TV such as hard disk recorders, micro-mixers, boom poles and wind screens. He also spoke to our students about the challenges of remote recording in the bottom of a canyon, on a moving vehicle and on the White House lawn!
