Live Sound

The Internet has exposed the public to music and artists they might never have discovered. This has renewed interest in live music, resulting in many thousands of shows. But live sound doesn’t just mean concerts. You’ll find live sound professionals at large-scale corporate presentations, public appearances, in theatres and anywhere else there’s an AV presentation.

At concerts you usually only notice the front-of-house mixer, but it takes many skilled people to put on a great show. The monitor mixer, for example, ensures the musicians can hear themselves play and sing; others set up microphones, tend to backline and stage requirements, rig the speakers, and someone has to design the overall parameters of the event’s system. It’s a huge undertaking, and it takes a well-trained team of professionals to get it done.

If concert halls aren’t your thing, what about living on a cruise ship? You might be surprised how many audio professionals do just that. The guests are on vacation, and their entertainment needs to go off without a hitch. This is a popular option for many recent grads. They travel the world while still accumulating savings, since the ship provides food and board.
