If you've been following the NHL playoffs so far, or if you watched the NHL Draft Lottery Saturday night, which most likely sent, projected #1 pick Connor McDavid to the Edmonton Oilers, grad Matt MacNeil ('11) was on the job as an A2 at the new multi-million dollar Rogers Sportsnet NHL studio where it all happened. Matt says, "I get to work alongside and hang out with neat hosts such as George Strombolopolous and the other CBC/Sporstnet analysts on a daily basis. I've worked with current and retired NHL players, coaches and general managers, most recently off the top of my head; Milan Lucic, Gary Bettman and Connor McDavid. It's fun and high-energy, and very demanding and busy. A good balance! The playoffs have been pretty insane!
"OIART left me with not only invaluable technical abilities, but also the always-important aspects of industry etiquette, crucial networking, and total confidence. OIART kicked off an extremely fun and rewarding career that has been snowballing and ascending exponentially since graduation. OIART planted the seed and since then I've been steadily getting work that is increasingly more enjoyable and cool. I wouldn't have been able to make it here without that first step. I probably wouldn't have gotten the job at CITY TV's Breakfast Television if it weren't for my first internship at Revolution Recording, and then wouldn't have gotten the Sportsnet job if it weren't for that. Working with my friends in (acclaimed Toronto group) badbadnotgood while I was still at OIART was a lot of fun too... I wouldn't have been able to do that either! But yeah... Sportsnet is a lot of fun!"
