4. iZotope Neutrino
This simple yet effective plugin is optimized to bring out the most of your vocals, drums, bass and instrument tracks. Neutrino will help you add clarity to your vocals, and make it easier to smooth them into your song.
The isotope Neutrino uses a process they call “spectral shaping” that is built to smooth out rough resonant frequencies that can be caused by improper mic placement and room tones. If you frequent multi-band compressors, this is a great substitute.

6. BD-808 & BD-909
This is by far one of our favourite programs out there. If you can guess by the name, this freeware plugin was designed to emulate the ever-popular Roland TR-808 and TR-909 that took over electronic and dance music in the 80s.
The best part about this plugin is that it’s not sample-based, rather it is built as a virtual instrument that Synsonic Instruments based on “a detailed analysis of the original 808 bass drum circuit.” Unlike other electronic kick drum plugins, the BD series allows you to modify its pitch chromatically, essentially allowing you to treat it as you would a virtual bass.

We’d be remiss if we didn’t mention by Full Bucket Music’s mammoth VA synth, the 3300. This thing is packed with some serious features, and if you’re looking for a truly authentic analog synth sound, you won’t find anything closer than this free digital tool. Built to emulate the KORG PS-3300 (hence the name), this thing comes loaded with 48 resonant filters, voltage controlled oscillators, voice polyphony and envelopes. The FB-3300 also offers a MIDI patch manager with 62 factory presets if you want to use it that way too.
The only downside to the 3300 is it not all that user friendly. It can be a little overwhelming with all the options, but it’s worth digging into.
