Derrick Aubie (’02) owns Sonic Image Audio and Visual Productions in Moncton NB. Derrick originally attended OIART’s audio and music production program wanting to pursue a career in the recording industry. After several years working with a national Audio Visual company he realized his passion was in live event production. Feeling he could bring something unique and creative to the marketplace, Derrick decided to take the leap and give running his own business a shot. Sonic Image opened their doors in 2012. Starting from humble beginnings out of his home with a small inventory consisting of a PA and a pair of projectors, Derrick explained, “Through a ton of hard work, dedication and knocking on endless doors we began to grow at a rapid pace. We now have a large inventory of Audio, Video, simultaneous interpretation and Lighting equipment. We've had the pleasure of working on over 370 events in 2015 alone and are forecasting upwards of 600 in 2016 with a growing team of full time experienced technicians who are among the best in the business.”

Derrick’s efforts won him the 2015 Greater Moncton Chamber of Commerce Excellence Award for Young Entrepreneur of the Year. Sonic Image currently has offices in Moncton NB and contracts in place with several hotels in the area. He plans to expand their services to include Nova Scotia and PEI in the near future. Derrick said, “My time at OIART has been a key ingredient to my business. Not only was it a launch pad for my career, but I continue to use the knowledge I obtained on a daily basis. Once you understand Audio concepts like signal flow and gain structure you can translate that to almost any technical situation. Video and lighting all come naturally once you understand that. OIART really set me up for success in this regard.”
